RESIDENCY — Galería Reus | Contemporary Art Galleries in Palma, Mallorca

Galeria Reus is a contemporary art gallery based in Mallorca whose trajectory dates back to 2003. Over the years, the project has evolved through different forms of collaboration and programming, consolidating itself as a space dedicated to the research, production, and dissemination of contemporary art.

The gallery works with emerging and mid-career artists, supporting the development of their practices while creating a context for dialogue, experimentation, and reflection around the diverse forms of contemporary artistic expression. Its program is characterized by a diversity of languages and approaches, as well as an interest in establishing connections between the local artistic scene and the international context.

From Mallorca, Galeria Reus aims to actively contribute to the contemporary cultural ecosystem by promoting projects that encourage exchange, artistic research, and the development of new perspectives.

CURATORIAL RESIDENCY PROGRAM

In 2018, Galería Fran Reus launched a residency program for international curators with the aim of strengthening connections and facilitating future professional collaborations with contemporary art professionals from across Europe. In this way, both the gallery and our represented artists have the opportunity to make our work visible beyond our local context and to grow internationally.

These objectives are implemented by inviting different international curators to take part in a one-week residency at our gallery, during which we accompany them on visits to the island’s artistic and cultural institutions, museums, galleries, and artists’ studios. Galería Fran Reus covers all expenses related to this activity (accommodation, travel, meals, and honorarium) with the support of the Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics.

OPEN CALL — ART & RESEARCH RESIDENCY 2027

WHO IS THIS FOR?

The Open Call is open to artists, curators and researchers of any age and nationality interested in developing an artistic, curatorial or research-based project in Palma, Mallorca.

There are no restrictions regarding age, nationality or country of residence. Applications are welcomed from practitioners at different stages of their careers and from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds.

WHAT IS THE RESIDENCY ABOUT?

The Art & Research Residency Program is conceived as a space for research, reflection, experimentation and artistic development.

The residency offers participants the time, space and context to develop new or ongoing projects, explore new lines of research and engage with Mallorca as a place for thinking and creation.

The program does not necessarily require the production of a final artwork or exhibition. Process, research and exchange are at the core of the residency.

WHERE DOES THE RESIDENCY TAKE PLACE?

The residency takes place in Palma, Mallorca, within the context of Galeria Reus and the island’s wider contemporary art and cultural scene.

A central part of the program is connecting residents with the local artistic ecosystem, facilitating encounters with artists, curators, researchers, institutions, galleries, cultural agents and other professionals based in Mallorca.

The aim is to create a dialogue between each resident’s practice and the social, cultural and artistic context of the island.

WHAT KIND OF PROJECTS CAN BE PROPOSED?

We welcome artistic, curatorial and research-based proposals, as well as interdisciplinary projects that explore new methodologies, ideas or forms of production and knowledge.

Projects may be at an initial stage or already in development. The residency is understood as a space in which to research, experiment, rethink and develop a practice, rather than exclusively as a production-oriented program.

Full application guidelines, required documentation and selection criteria will be announced with the launch of the Open Call.
