ALEJANDRO JAVALOYAS

Biography
Alejandro Javaloyas (1987, Palma de Mallorca, Spain) is an artist based in Toulouse, France, with a distinguished background in film. He holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree (Summa Cum Laude) from ESCAC Barcelona Film School (University of Barcelona).

In his minimalist abstract art, Javaloyas reimagines the pictorial surface by transforming plywood into convex forms through folding, cutting, perforation, and polishing. This process reshapes the canvas into an arch-like form, resembling a segment of an incomplete circle. Indeed, this circular motif recurs as a pictorial element in his work, appearing as dots, circles, spheres, or holes.

Through this approach, his pieces engage in a dialogue with the materiality of wood, exploring the tension between form, figure and background, positive and negative space, object and wall. His exploration delves into the philosophical, aesthetic, and historical meanings of the sphere as a geometric element, symbol, and habitable space, inviting the viewer to reflect on its broader existential and sociological implications.
